Providing aid to children, families and schools affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster.

Child Sponsorship

Sponsoring a child through Hope for Chernobyl’s Child is simple… and you will change a life!

The children in Hope for Chernobyl’s Child sponsorship program are not eligible to come to the USA for health respite with programs such as For the Children of the World. Many times the reason is as simple as not having their documents in order, health problems, or behavior issues.

Children who need sponsors are identified by the school director and teachers. Most are in desperate situations, and without sponsorship, have no hope of improved living conditions. Many of these children are in such dire situations they may only receive one meal a day at school. Many of the children have very small homes consisting only of a living room and kitchen. These families sleep together in one room. Most of the children do not even have running water in their homes. They must use primitive outhouses.

Because of these conditions, many of the children have poor health and dental problems. Several children in our program have never been to a dentist despite having obvious need. There are also several children with known kidney problems, heart defects, and physical defects that diminish their day to day quality of life.

The cost to sponsor a child in Belarus is $450 per year. Sponsored children will receive a basic aid package that consists of items such as:

With remaining sponsorship funds, each child will also receive items from their individual “needs list” consisting of items such as coats, boots, school uniforms, and additional meals at school.

Many of the items can be shipped to Belarus throughout the year, but because of customs difficulties, it is necessary for HCC to purchase most of the large aid items in Belarus. A small portion of each sponsorship will help to cover the costs necessary to deliver the much needed aid items to the children.

Sponsorship funds can be paid all at once, or you may choose a monthly or quarterly payment plan.

Hope for Chernobyl’s Child is a 501 c 3 tax-exempt organization. All donations are tax deductible and may be eligible for matching gifts through your employer. To request more information, please contact us.
